I love tax returns. I really do. You see, if I were a much wiser man I would simply squirrel away part of every paycheck that I receive. Not being a wiser man I look forward to tax season to get my money back from the government — as well as the subsequent shopping spree.

Although the grid itself is unlikely to be directly available to domestic internet users, many telecoms providers and businesses are already introducing its pioneering technologies. One of the most potent is so-called dynamic switching, which creates a dedicated channel for internet users trying to download large volumes of data such as films. In theory this would give a standard desktop computer the ability to download a movie in five seconds rather than the current three hours or so.

I’m sure there are a couple organizations that are happy to hear that ‘The Grid’ will currently be unavailable to ‘domestic internet users.’ You know that I’m talking about the RIAA and the MPAA, right?
I’ve had this idea in my head since I signed up for the Apple Developer Connection. One of the required fields on the sign-up form was ‘company.’ Since I don’t really work for a company at the moment I felt I should just do what I always do in such situations — I faked it. I couldn’t think of anything clever at the moment so I turned to my roommate. After very short deliberation he suggested Weyland-Yutani. I told him that was a punch on his nerd card … and the nerd card was born.
If you want to print out your own nerd cards I made a pdf that you can download.
For those of you who haven’t realized, the new season of Doctor Who is set to air April 5th. I watched the trailer last week and was disappointed not to see any Daleks. I thought, ‘how can you have a season of Doctor Who and not have Daleks.’ Happily the new trailer had that familiar shape.
I’m curious to see what is planned for bringing some of the characters back from the previous seasons. They have Sarah Jane, Martha Jones, Donna Noble, and even Rose Tyler. (Can’t wait to see how they explain bringing back Rose.) The Doctor’s even fighting an enemy I haven’t seen since Tom Baker, the Sontarans.
I’m glad to see Catherine Tate coming back as Donna Noble but I’m not sure how I feel about giants wasps. I’ll decide when I see the episode.
My favorite part is the “eyes” that scan back and forth so quickly.

You’ll need to forgive me for the title but I couldn’t resist. Anyway, this is the beginning. Every journey begins with a first step and this is mine. I welcome myself to the world of blogging. And you can too once I write up comment.php. Bear with me; it’ll be in a more reasonable state before the weekend. (I’m only at version 0.3a)
